Description #
This lecture will first provide a thorough introduction to the laboratory cycle. From there we will review tests requisitions and ordering, sample labeling, and the collection and transportation of samples from blood, genitourinary tract, gastrointestinal tract, cerebral spinal fluid, respiratory tract and the skin. In exploring each sample type we will consider specifics for cultures and smears in malaria smears and rapid diagnostic tests, urine collection, catheter collection, STI testing, NAAT testing, stool specimens and cultures, stool ova and parasites, lumbar puncture, sputum collection, and wound cultures from skin.
