Description #
This lecture opens with a review of the classes of pharmaceutical lipid lowering therapies, including the chemical class, mode of action, therapeutic effect and its relation to clinical decision making, side effect profiles, and contraindications and cautions for laboratory testing. Next we will explore the medication classes, including statins, fibrates, resins, pipeline-CETP inhibitors, PCSK9 inhibitors, ApoB and RNA antisense. From there we will discuss mevalonic acid biosynthesis, cholesterol biosynthesis, ezetimibe in HFH, and medications that effect lipids.
