Description #
To begin this lecture provides a discussion around afferents and efferents, and then an overview of the parasympathetic branch of the Autonomic Nervous System and its effect on the heart. We will consider N and M cholinoceptors, cholinergic neurotransmission, muscarinic acetylcholine receptors and receptor agonists and antagonist, and acetylcholinesterase inhibitors. We will look at sites for chemical intervention in the sympathetic nervous system, the sympathetic structure, and drugs that inhibit storage or promote release. This lecture ends with a discussion on the possible major therapeutic uses of drugs on the autonomic nervous system.
