Description #
To begin, this lecture will provide students with a brief history of local anesthetics and their applications. Students will then review the chemistry and structure of local anesthetics and the activity of relationships at work. This leads into the mechanism of action of local anesthetics, and their pharmacological effects and toxicities. We will look at clinical aspects, including the functional consequences of Na channel blockade by local anesthetics and the differential susceptibility of nerves to local anesthetics. Finally, this lecture ends with a closer look at local anesthetic toxicities.
