Description #
To begin this lecture provides a background to neurophysiology, as well as an overview of seizures and possible causes for seizures. In this overview we will look at epilepsy, general seizures, tonic clonic seizures, absence seizures, and status epilepticus. We will then look at theories and principles for treatment, and the following related topics: phenytoin, carbamazepine, ethosuximide, increases to CNS inhibition, phenobarbital, benzodiazepines, among others, and common side effects of epileptic drugs.
