Description #
This lecture will explore the clinical classification of fungal pathogens and provide an overview of the diagnostic methods used in mycology. We will move through approaches to common agents of fungal infection, interpretation of lab results, and the interactions of humans and fungal pathogens. Next we will discuss common isolation and identification methods, including direct examination, culture and molecular techniques. This leads us to consider culture media, including testing for yeasts, moulds and dimorphic fungi. After looking at Superficial Specimen Collection, we close this lecture considering dermatophytes and mucor mycosis.
