Using the Syndaver Synthetic Human as a surgical simulator to practice on Emergency conditions combined with and Laerdal wireless SimPad Monitor and controller to create a realistic ER room.
Participant also will become familiar with the structure and organization of the Simulated Educational Environment.
Unit intended to provide information about Anatomy, Pathology and essential properties of (SSH), and it’s use for practicing emergency skills.

Introduction to Syndaver #
The SynDaver Synthetic Human (SSH) is the most sophisticated surgical simulator ever used in the medical field. The full-body SSH is a head-to-toe synthetic physical representation of human anatomy.
Physicians and educators in surgical training as well as military manufactures in ballistics testing currently use Syndaver lab products.
Also, SynDaver Synthetic Human full body and other products are being used for medical devices testing, consumer products and pharmaceutical industries.
SynDaver Lab products employ replaceable muscles, tendons, veins, arteries and organs all made from materials that mimic the structural, chemical and mechanical properties of live tissue. It is possible to build a custom made model with required malformations and pathologies.

Important properties of Syndaver #
SynDaver Labs products are comprised of water, fiber matrices, and salts.
On average the SynDaver body is 85% water, combined with a wide variety of fibers, and the addition of different salts and other compounds to modify optical, thermal, and dielectric properties.
Clinical Features #
Syndaver is a life-like synthetic human body that looks, and reacts, like the real human body. SynDavers replicate the body’s anatomy while mimicking the texture and feel of actual skin and organ tissues.
The products are also designed to mimic the mechanical, chemical, and physical properties of actual living tissue.
Although, Syndaver is a surgical simulator at present phase, it can be combined with additional simulation units or just the monitors to provide clinical scenario and patient’s vital signs.
Modules sex (Male or Female), ethnicity, bone type and skin type can be selected.
The SynDaver model can be hooked to heart pump that make blood flow through the arteriovenous system, or hooked to a ventilator to breathe.”
It is possible to incorporate actuators and controls, which allow different parts of the body to move.
Anatomy: #
The SynDaver Synthetic Human (SSH) has a complex anatomy, everything that resides within normal human anatomy.
The full-body SSH is a head-to-toe synthetic physical representation of human anatomy, including:
- Skin with fat and fascia planes: The model may be covered with either the standard SynDaver synthetic human (pure wet chemistry) skin or a new organ silicate-synthetic human hybrid (polymer outer – wet inner) skin.
- Musculoskeletal system: With all bones, muscles, tendons, ligament and fully articulating joints.
- A functioning respiratory system including trachea, lungs, and diaphragm,
- A complete digestive tract from the esophagus to rectum
- The urinary tract (kidneys, bladder, and urethra)
- The visceral organs (liver, gall bladder, pancreas, spleen)
- Reproductive organs
- The Cardio Vascular System: with heart and coronary arteries, aorta, vena cava, primary arterial and venous trunks leading to the extremities.
- The SynTissue Vessel Designers allows us to design synthetic human arteries and veins with arterial intima, media, and adventitia. These vessels respond to puncture, abrasion, pressure, and high-energy stimulation just like living tissue. There are standard, translucent, or transparent constructions to choose from.
- All muscles, bones, organs, and vascular components are separately removable and replaceable to allow onsite servicing and upgrading.
Pathologies #
The SynDaver Synthetic Human (SSH) is the most elaborate and sophisticated surgical simulator that has a sophisticated anatomy not just in the healthy state but also in the disease state, and variety of pathologies, vascular tracts, tumors, Aneurism and Venous malformation….

Diseased Vessel
The SynDaver™ diseased vessel designer allows you to build a variety of disease states into venous or arterial segments. Select from abnormal wall thickness, wall calcifications, perforations, or aneurysms.
Thrombus models
The size, relative age (toughness), different dimensions or characteristics and color of these models can be selected.
The SynDaver™ plaque designer allows you to build plaque models from our patented library of SynTissue™ brand synthetic lesion tissues. These novel materials have been experimentally designed on the basis of tests performed on actual lesion samples (provided by clients) to mimic the physical properties of any particular lesions. They are fabricated using an established and proven process so that test results are always reproducible and repeatable.

Users #
There are different SynDaver products for different industries.
The original idea behind the SynDaver body was training, testing, and tissue-based studies for medical engineering.
Later was found that SynDaver Lab products are real alternative to live animal and cadaver use; for surgical procedures and medical education.
The user could be the medical student using a suture pad for developing the basic motor skills and Basic Surgical Techniques (BST), to a nurse practicing a venipuncture skill and to a surgeon who does a complicated knee replacement surgery.
Over all, Surgeons, Clinicians, Medical professional, uses this products.
Research and development engineers and people that work in that field will also benefit from this model.
Future goals #
The original idea behind the SynDaver body was training, testing, and tissue-based studies for medical engineering.
Later was found that SynDaver Lab products are real alternative to live animal and cadaver use for surgical procedures and medical education.
The goal is a SynDaver model that will be possible to manipulate or control respiration, pulse rate, body temperature, and blood pressure in different areas of the body.
The Syndaver labs are working on additional functionality to control specific parts of the body. For example, they want the cardiovascular system to function automatically.
The ultimate goal is a SynDaver body governed by an open-sourced, internal autonomic nervous system. This will tell the heart to beat, the blood vessels to constrict or open, control respiration, and enable the body temperature to change.
Synthetic Tissue Handling Instructions and Room policies #
All SynDaver™ Labs’ synthetic soft tissues are manufactured from water, fibers, and salts. These products are sometimes shipped in the presence of saline and isopropyl alcohol. MSDS for this solution is available at the bottom of this page.
Syndaver full body, task trainers or individual tissues will last for a long time or forever, as long as they are correctly cared for. SynDaver Labs’ products cannot be left out on the desk 24/7, they require storage in the cases that SynDaver provides, but this is minimal effort to have lifelike tissue and components with which to train and develop.
Note: Always wear gloves when touching and handling. Goggles and lab coats are always a good idea. Do NOT keep in dry, warm places. Dehydration will damage the material.
Hydration: Keep products hydrated. During extended use it is recommended to periodically mist any exposed fascia tissues with distilled water.
Temperature: Synthetic soft tissue must not be exposed to temperatures exceeding 175F (79.4C)
Storage: All parts should be stored with water in an appropriate sealed bag or container. Refrigeration is not required.
Cleaning:
- Small parts such as fascias, vessels, and suture pads may be washed with warm, soapy water after use.
- Medium sized parts such as organs, tissue plates, and partial task trainers may also be hand washed.
- Larger parts such as limbs, torsos, and full bodies should either be soaked in chlorinated water or sprayed down with 70% Isopropyl alcohol.
- If mold develops parts may be sanitized by soaking in a 2% solution of hydrogen peroxide. After soaking part should be rinsed in tap water and patted dry.
- Do NOT use any household chemicals
- NO FOOD OR DRINK IN SIM Room
SynDaver™ Labs soft tissue storage fluid concentrate (900g) is comprised of Water (50.0%), Isopropyl Alcohol (45.0%), Sodium Chloride (3.1%), Potassium Chloride (1.1%), and other proprietary ingredients (<1.0%)
Dilute the concentrate with water to make a total of 1 gallon prior to use.
