Prenatal screening and diagnosis #
What is prenatal screening and diagnosis?
Prenatal screening or diagnosis is testing for diseases or conditions in a fetus or embryo before it is born. The aims of prenatal diagnosis are reassuring and preparing parents/family/obstetrician/pediatrician for birth of abnormal child if pregnancy continues and enabling rational perinatal management as well as enabling couples at risk of genetic disorders to have unaffected children.
